On September 15, 2020, Walmart introduced a membership program called Walmart Plus (Walmart+). It is Walmart’s version of Amazon Prime, offering online and in-store benefits for its members. Although the program is geared toward Walmart customers, there is a way for marketplace sellers to utilize Walmart+ to boost sales.
Walmart Plus Features
Walmart Plus costs $12.95/mo (or $98/year) with a 15-day trial period. The most significant advantage is free next-day and two-day shipping with no order minimum requirement.
Other benefits include:
- Free same-day delivery from your local Walmart store for groceries, household essentials, toys, etc.
- Scan & Go app – you can use it to scan products as you shop and pay using Walmart Pay for a quick, queue-free experience.
- Fuel discounts – with a Walmart+ membership, you can save up to 5 cents a gallon at almost 2,000 Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Murphy USA/Express fuel stations.
Here you can find more information about getting started with Walmart+ and start a 15-day trial.
Utilizing Walmart Plus as a Walmart Marketplace Seller
Free shipping is the most influential element in terms of customer acquisition. Walmart Plus’ free shipping offering without an order value minimum can significantly increase conversion of specific items. However, all items offered with the Plus badge have to be shipped/fulfilled by Walmart. This requirement is excellent news for Walmart DSV sellers as all of their products are marked as sold by Walmart, but it also means that third-party sellers are excluded from free shipping under the Walmart+ program.
So how can a third-party seller utilize it?
The answer is Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS). Another Walmart program that allows sellers to utilize Walmart’s warehouses to store products and automatically ship them to customers. You can read more about this feature and apply here.
Products under $35 converted to WFS are automatically assigned a Walmart+ badge. You do not have to do anything else! This may be particularly beneficial if you offer a lot of low-priced products. Customers ordering a single item priced under $35 will certainly pick your free shipping offer over offerings of the same item that have a shipping price.
Walmart Plus and GeekSeller
If you are a GeekSeller user, you can easily convert your products to WFS and Walmart will assign a Plus badge to your converted offers. Our support team can help you with the WFS setup and product conversion.
