The Importance of Managing Walmart Customer Messages

Message Center and Walmart customer messages have been available on Walmart for a while now. If you are actively responding to customers’ inquiries on an everyday basis, this post probably will not reveal anything new to you. However, if you did not know that you can communicate with shoppers, you should definitely read on.

We have discovered that many sellers are not even aware that the Message Center tab exists on Walmart Seller Center or tend to ignore it. This may have a considerable impact once Walmart decides to assess your performance, or they will need to resolve a dispute. Responding to customer emails can also build a good relationship with buyers, which may earn you positive reviews and encourage recurring purchases.

Walmart customer messages on message center

You can access the message center by clicking the Messages icon on the upper toolbar on Walmart Seller Center. This tab looks like a regular email inbox and consists of Walmart Customer Care (support representatives) and regular Walmart customer messages. For easier management, you can search your messages for specific order ID, subject, or customer name. You can also create message templates for the most common inquiries. The message center is easy to use and relatively self-explanatory, so we will not dive into details. However, there are a few message tags sellers should be aware of:

  • Response Needed: The message requires immediate attention and you should respond to the customer within the next 48 hours.
  • Customer Care: The message is from Walmart Customer Care on behalf of the customer. Customer Care issues should be given immediate attention and Walmart requires a response within the next 48 hours.
  • Service-level Agreement (SLA) Indicator: This displays the response time left to respond to a message (e.g., you must respond to a Customer Care email within 48 hours). There are two SLA indicators:
    • Remaining Hours to Respond: A live counter that indicates the number of hours remaining for you to respond. This refreshes every 30 minutes until the time runs out.
    • Overdue: When the SLA has passed, the notification will change to overdue.

Here you can find more information about Walmart customer messages. If you have any further questions regarding this, you can contact our support or ask in the comments section below.

I am notified I have 9 messages, but when I pull it up there is nothing. It has gone from like 3 to 9 messages in the last 3 days.

Rebecca, try to clear your browser cache and log in again. You might also want to contact Walmart support about this. This sounds like an issue on the Walmart Seller Center.

Can you tell me how to turn off these messages? I’m not interested in getting messages about products. All I want is a notification that my pick up order is ready and I can check in. Is there a way to turn off messages without turning off important notifications about my orders?

Susan, the post above describes the messaging system for sellers to communicate with buyers. However, it seems like you’re a shopper on Walmart.com, not a seller. Your concern seems to be about email communication between you and Walmart. To stop receiving promotional emails, you can look for an unsubscribe link within those emails or respond to them requesting to unsubscribe. You might also want to adjust the settings in your buyer account on Walmart.com. Please note that our company supports sellers, and we are not equipped to assist buyers. We recommend reaching out to Walmart’s buyer support for further assistance (see https://www.walmart.com/help).

Dear Tobi, assuming you’re a buyer on Walmart.com and not a seller, for concerns about email communication with Walmart, please contact Walmart’s buyer support for further assistance (https://www.walmart.com/help).

I currently have 31 messages in my Walmart app, a mixture of ads and delivery info.

    – I’ve tried opening and looking at them, hoping they’d disappear after I gave them some attention—didn’t work.
-I’ve tried swiping left on them—doesn’t work.
    – I’ve tried to select them by pushing and holding, hoping to bring up a menu that offers delete—doesn’t work.

    How do I delete them?

Hi Jan, this sounds like some kind of UX issue. Did you try using another browser? Did you open a support case with Walmart? If you can record a video showing this behavior and send it to me at support@geekseller.com, I can send it to Walmart’s UX team to request fixing it.
