Germany’s 2019 Packaging Act (VerpackG) requires business sellers to license the packaging for their products and register with the LUCID database when they sell items to customers in Germany. eBay just sent out the important updates on selling to German buyers on eBay, reminding sellers that from July 1, 2022, the company is legally obliged to ensure that eBay sellers comply with these regulations. This also impacts other marketplaces that allow shipping from the US to Europe, such as Etsy, which also asks sellers to comply. On January 1, 2019, Germany’s VerpackG (Packaging Act) came into effect, imposing requirements on online retailers—including Etsy shops selling to buyers in Germany. The Packaging Act promotes recycling and reuse of packaging materials (e.g. cardboard boxes, tape, and bubble wrap). Recent updates to the Packaging Act include new requirements impacting online marketplaces like Etsy, as well as some Etsy sellers. The new regulations take effect July 1, 2022.
