Etsy marketplace sales down 6% year-over-year, but up 141% compared to 2019

Etsy published its Second Quarter 2022 Financial Results. The marketplace GMS (Gross Merchandise Sales) was $2.6 billion in the 2nd quarter of this year, down 6% year-over-year. However, the GMV grew by 141% since 2019, showing a long terms positive trend. The second quarter of 2022 brought also approximately 6 million new buyers to Etsy, and the company expanded internationally, with non-U.S. GMS for the Etsy marketplace now 44% of overall GMS, increasing 3% year-over-year.

USPS Simplifies Package Shipping Options

The Postal Service announced its plans to incorporate USPS Retail Ground and Parcel Select Ground into one enhanced First-Class Package Service (FCPS) product. If approved, changes will take effect on January 8, 2023.

eBay Open Seller Conference

eBay announced that it will hold its annual eBay Open conference on September 21-23, 2022. The event is designed to connect, educate and inspire sellers of all types and levels. This year’s event will mainly take place online, but sellers can also join eBay Open Studio, the in-person events that are happening on September 23 in New York, Austin, and Los Angeles.

USPS increases prices, First-Class Mail goes up by 6.5%

The United States Postal Service announced its plans to raise the prices. The change will take effect on July 10. The price hike will increase the cost of First-Class Mail by 6.5%, and a Forever stamp will rise from 58 cents to 60 cents. See the table below for a complete list of changes.

2022 Amazon Prime Day will happen on July 12 and 13

Amazon announced, that this year the famous 48-hour event kicks off July 12 at 3 a.m. EDT and runs through July 13. Sellers should review this Amazon Seller Central help page to check the eligibility criteria for Prime Exclusive Discounts and instructions on how to create them.

Shopify will give cashback to customers for shopping in your store

Shoppers now earn 1% cashback on eligible purchases made via Shop Pay (Shopify’s payment processing system), but this cash is only redeemable in the Shop app. There is no cost to sellers, as Shopify is funding this cashback.

Walmart invites UK retailers to sell on the Walmart US Marketplace

On the 17th of June, in London, Walmart in a partnership with Linnworks and Payoneer organized a Walmart UK Global Seller Summit event, promoting the Walmart.com marketplace to the UK-based companies. More merchants joining Walmart.com means a greater selection and variety of products for American customers, but also more competition for the US sellers.

PayPal’s upcoming changes to fees and friends & family transactions

Starting July 28, 2022, for the customers in the US, the Goods & Services seller fee will change to 2.99%, with no fixed fee. This is to compare with the current 2.89% + $0.49. Additionally, the US customers will now only be able to send Friends and Family peer-to-peer payments to consumer PayPal accounts.
