Product customization is changing the face of retail. No longer do you have to go to the local print shop and ask for a t-shirt, mug, or card with your name or logo– you can go to hundreds of sites across the web to upload your text/image and have it delivered to your door. Amazon’s decision to add customization options to their products is another move by the eCommerce titan to provide buyers with a single site that provides all their eCommerce needs.
What does this mean for sellers who want to add customizable options to their products?
Once you register and are approved for the program (response time is currently an hour or less), you will have access to a new listing tool in the Seller Central, where you can begin configuring your listings for customization options.
There are a few things you should know before enrolling in the Amazon Custom program: You must have a professional seller account, all customized items must be fulfilled by merchant (FBA is unable to add the customization to products) and you can add customization to products in any category that you are authorized to sell in.
Amazon Custom Options
Text customization- Text customization allows customers to add text to your products using color and font options you’ve specified within Seller Central. This option can be used for engraving, embroidery, printing, and more.
Image customization- Image customization enables customers to customize your product by uploading their own image. The customer may also add text to display on the image.
Product configuration- Product configuration or “list of options” enables you to create a series of drop-down options through Seller Central that customers can use to build their own product. This feature also enables you to charge an additional fee for select customization options.
