Amazon and Wal-Mart Make News with big Announcements in January 2017

Amazon Plans to Hire 100,000 full-time employees

On Thursday January 12, 2017 Amazon made a big announcement: It plans to hire 100,000 more full-time employees over an 18-month period. Amazon is building new fulfillment centers in California, Florida, and Texas, and will likely add many of these jobs to the new fulfillment centers. Amazon has also pointed out that they have added more than 150,000 American jobs in the last five years alone.

Wal-Mart/JET.com signs Contract with Workday Inc.

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart – which owns Amazon’s e-commerce competitor JET.com – made news with the announcement that it has agreed to use HR Software company Workday Inc. for its recruiting, learning, and planning solutions. (Source: Yahoo! Finance ) It is important to note that back in October 2016, Wal-Mart pledged to spend more annual capital on its newly acquired e-commerce side of business with JET.com to better compete with Amazon.com.
